So when should I use 999
 | If there is a danger to life or a risk of injury being caused, such as a serious
road accident or assault. |
 | If a crime is in progress, such as robbery, burglary or theft, and the offender is
still on the scene or has just left the area. |
 | If the immediate attendance of a police officer is necessary - such as someone
acting suspiciously and obviously about to commit a crime. |
|
If in doubt ask
yourself :
 | Will a delay have a disastrous effect on the incident I am reporting? |
 | Will someone's life be at risk? |
 | Will more damage be caused? |
 | Will an offender escape? |
 | Will evidence be lost? |

Your Community Beat (Action)
Officer.If you
have made a note of your Community Beat Officers telephone number, don't use it to report
any urgent crimes, as your Beat Officer may be on holiday, sick leave, in court, on rest
days, or any number of reasons why they can't pick up your call for a few days.
By all means ring your Community Beat Officer
to report that youv'e seen little Jimmy throwing stones at next doors cat, or your
neighbour keeps revving his car in the street, or invite the Officier round for a cuppa,
but DON'T ring your Community Beat Officers to report urgent crimes. |
